3.3 Overview: Each player plays against all other players in the competition; therefore all players must be treated equally under the rules of golf.
a.) Winner: Player who completes the competition in the fewest amount of strokes
Net Strokes in handicapped competitions (although gross scores should still be entered)
Tie breaking procedure is determined by the Committee
b.) Scoring: Player's score is recorded on a scorecard by the players marker
Markers responsibilities:
Enter (gross scores)
Certify/sign the players scores on the scorecard
Players responsibilities:
During the round - Should keep track of their score for each hole (not required) Required and after the round:
Check hole by hole scores kept by the marker
Bring any issues that came up during the round with the committee
Sign/certify scorecard and make sure the marker also signs/certifies scorecard
Must Not - Change a score for a hole entered by the marker unless the marker or committee approves
Disqualification for the player if in breach of Rule - 3.3(b) Scoring in Stroke Play. Exception to disqualification - If marker fails out to carry out their duties. (Example - Marker leaves the course with the player's scorecard or without certifying the scorecard)
Wrong score for a hole - If a players scorecard is certified by both the player and marker and the score for the hole is wrong:
If the returned scorecard is higher than the actual score - The higher score stands. See 1968 Masters
If the returned scorecard is lower than actual score - The player is Disqualified
Exception - If an unknown penalty was not applied to scorecard
The par 5, twelfth hole is the Country Club of Hilton Head’s signature. It features spectacular views of the Intracoastal Waterway and is the highest point on Hilton Head Island, measuring 28.24 feet above sea level.
